	DreamDesign Home-Brew Text Effects
Let's assume that for lack of drive space or lack of dollars, you just can't collect all those fancy filters, add-ons, plugins and other programs that do neat effects at the click of a mouse. You're not out of luck! Each of these basic text effects can easily be done "by hand" even in a no-frills paint program like Windows Paintbrush. If you do have access to the special filters that duplicate these effects, it's still very helpful to know how to do them on your own. These techniques need not be limited to text objects alone, and the skills you'll pick up with them will undoubtably come in handy for many other art applications.

Shadows
Adding tight or drop shadows doesn't require fancy filters when you know the secrets.

Glow
Making text appear to be glowing or ghostly is easier than you think.

Simple Golden
Give your text a 24 carat edge on the competition without going to a lot of trouble or expense.

Metallic
Tired of watching others have all the fun with reflective metallics? Make your own without any special software.

Sculpted
Do you admire that sculpted and beveled 3D appearance some filters grant to text? Here's how to make your own without those special plug-ins.

Texturized
When you begin to texturize, your text can appear to be made of stone or wood or anything at all!

Gradients
Use those rainbows and other gradients for your text with maximum impact and minimum hassle.

Scribble
Imitate the popular "grunge" look by easily creating lettering without hard edges that appears to have been carelessly scribbled or is corroding.
